    American Association for Physician Leadership

    American Association for Physician Leadership

The American Association for Physician Leadership® (AAPL) is the world&rtapos;s oldest and largest professional association dedicated solely to maximizing physician leadership.

From the moment physicians begin their leadership journey through the time they are seasoned leaders, AAPL provides education and training, resources and tools, and content and experiences needed to close gaps between hands-on clinical care, organization system improvements and optimized business outcomes.

Founded in 1975, and formerly known as the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE), the association supports physician leaders through its focus on lifelong learning, professional development and community, and thought leadership. Approximately 10,000 active members, thousands of nonmember physicians and hundreds of organizations in more than 30 countries participate and collaborate with us annually.

Beyond supporting the physician workforce, we also provide a spectrum of leadership education and training to the institutions, organizations and associations where physicians work and engage professionally. Through our Lx Solutions program, our faculty and consultants design, execute, supplement and certify leadership programs within health care delivery systems of all types and sizes.

In addition to our core leadership offerings, physicians on an AAPL developmental path can choose to pursue master&rtapos;s degrees through any of our five partner universities that offer seven master&rtapos;s degree programs. Through a combination of requirements, experience, core leadership courses and a performance-based capstone, physicians can also pursue the Certified Physician Executive (CPE) credential.

We believe that, at some level, all physicians are leaders and stewards of patient-centered care. Our education, career support, programming, content and community empower physicians, delivery systems and institutions to manage and lead efforts of sustainable change.
