    About the Creator

    Sidney C. Truelove, MD, (d. 2002) was a gastroenterologist and lecturer in Oxford, UK. He founded the International Organization for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and was the first president of the British Society of Digestive Endoscopy. Dr. Truelove is best known for his research in ulcerative colitis, leading the first clinical trial in the field that demonstrated effectiveness of cortisone in ulcerative colitis.

    Dr. Leslie J. Witts

    About the Creator

    Leslie J. Witts, CBE FRCP, (d. 1982) was a gastroenterologist and hematologist in Oxford, UK. He became the first Nuffield professor of clinical medicine at the University of Oxford and was the co-founder of the British Society of Gastroenterology. Dr. Witts' primary research was focused on treatment of iron-deficiency anemia.
