    CSHA Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS)

    Measures frailty to predict survival.

    When to Use
    Why Use

    • The Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) is a simple instrument that can be used by almost anyone to quantify degree of frailty, which is often difficult to define.

    • The CFS correlates reasonably well with medium and long term outcomes (measured in years) of patients in terms of both mortality and need for institutional care.

There are many frailty criteria, scores, and indices which can be lengthy and laborious to complete. The CFS has become used widely, likely due to its simplicity.
