    ACEP ED COVID-19 Management Tool

    Emergency department classification and management tool for adult patients (greater than 18 years old) with suspected or confirmed SARS-CoV-2 (v2.0, updated January 13, 2022).

    To guide severity classification, risk stratification, diagnostic, and management decisions in adult patients (≥18 years old) with suspected or confirmed SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) infection in the emergency department.

    • This algorithm is not intended as a substitute for clinicians' clinical judgement.

    • This algorithm is not exhaustive in regards to diagnostic and treatment recommendations for patients with COVID-19 and COVID-like illness. 

    • Patients presenting with symptoms conditions that may be manifestations of COVID-19 may also be manifestations of other serious disease (e.g. MI, PE, stroke), requiring additional specific diagnostic and therapeutic interventions not discussed in this tool.
