Predicts outcome of medical therapy in severe ulcerative colitis.
Use this tool to predict failure of medical therapy on day 3 of admission for acute severe ulcerative colitis. Requires radiographic, laboratory, and clinical symptoms to calculate risk.
Management
As index scores increase, so does the predicted risk of medical therapy failure (IV steroids).
For patients at high risk (index score ≥4), consider other therapies such as immunomodulators and surgery. Ensure your patient has appropriate follow-up and maintenance therapy on discharge.
