Advice

Pain control and hydration are mainstays of pancreatitis management. Bowel rest was historically also used, but modern guidelines such as from the American College of Gastroenterology recommend early feeding in mild acute pancreatitis (Tenner 2013).

Management

Patients with atypical features or worsening clinical status may benefit from CT imaging and/or surgical consultation to assess for signs of necrotic pancreatitis or need for surgical intervention.
