Coronavirus Anxiety Scale (CAS)

Assesses dysfunctional anxiety associated with the COVID-19 crisis.

Ask the patient to choose an answer that best describes how they have felt and conducted themselves over the past 2 weeks:

I felt dizzy, lightheaded, or faint when I read or listened to news about the coronavirus

I had trouble falling or staying asleep because I was thinking about the coronavirus

I felt paralyzed or frozen when I thought about or was exposed to information about the coronavirus

I lost interest in eating when I thought about or was exposed to information about the coronavirus

I felt nauseous or had stomach problems when I thought about or was exposed to information about the coronavirus

  • A high total score (≥9) or elevated scores on specific items may indicate significant coronavirus-related anxiety symptoms that warrant further evaluation and/or intervention, such as: 
    • Referral to mental health services, therapy, or counseling.
    • Education and resources on stress management and coping strategies.
