CAHP (Cardiac Arrest Hospital Prognosis) Score

Predicts poor prognosis after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and guides utility of cardiac catheterization.

    INSTRUCTIONS

Use in adult patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) of suspected cardiac etiology. Do not use for other causes of arrest, e.g. trauma, hanging, drowning, intoxication, overdose.

    When to Use
    Pearls/Pitfalls
    Why Use

Adult cardiac arrest patients with return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) presenting to ED.

    • Devised and validated on out of hospital cardiac arrest patients with suspected medical/cardiac disease. It should not be used for patients with traumatic arrests or other circumstances such as drug overdose, environmental hypothermia, and asphyxiation.
    • STEMI patients have a class I indication for coronary angiography even after out of hospital cardiac arrest.

Helps risk stratify and identify patients at high risk for adverse neurologic outcomes who may not benefit from immediate cardiac catheterization, coronary angiography or other aggressive modalities of care such as percutaneous left ventricular assist devices, ECMO.
