Resuscitation Using ECPR During In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (RESCUE-IHCA)
Predicts the probability of death for adult extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR).
Advice
- Intended for survival prediction once patient has been placed on ECMO during cardiac arrest-not intended to drive decision to place ECMO for IHCA.
- RESCUE-IHCA was derived using an IHCA cohort and validated with an IHCA population.
Management
- While there are no guidelines incorporating the RESCUE-IHCA score, this score can assist clinicians with in-hospital mortality prediction once a patient is placed on ECMO during CPR.
- Similar scores (e.g. SAVE score) excluded ECMO in CPR populations.
Critical Actions
The RESCUE-IHCA score utilizes 6 patient and arrest characteristics to predict probability of death after IHCA and ECPR; however it does not account for comprehensive clinical decision making nor process-specific (i.e., cannulator skill) variables.
